Winning Entry by Ms. Chahat Pandia
About the Photograph:
The picture gives quite a raw and unfiltered ambience of the city. The thought behind the picture is being able to capture the essence of the city along with its localites who make the picture even more charming. As the picture shows the hustle and bustle a tiny street in the city goes through every morning and the chaos that is created is different every morning. From the bargain to get some extra flowers to being able to carry the extra ones on the bike. The image gives the vibe of a freshly smelling flower street. The men in veshtis and women in sarees adds onto the beautiful street set up. This street is typically known for the wide variety of flowers it sells also called as the 'poo kadai' which means flower shop. Right from the mogras which the traditional Tamil women adore their hair with to the banana leaf hangings which are hung outside houses and offices on occasions the street has it all. The garbage on the street too adds its own charm cause what's an Indian street without some dirt or maybe lots of dirt. Even some random activities can make the picture uniquely appealing to the eyes.
From the Artist:
I am a 2nd year BSC. Visual Communication student who developed an interest in photography while I modelled for my brother and started loving the aesthetics. Every good click would give me a sense of satisfaction and happiness. I didn't have a very good phone but clicked quite decent pictures with the existing one. Gradually I discovered this course which fit in exactly what I would be interested in doing and I knew I had to get in. So once I started with college I had lots of time and started experimenting with different things and grew interest. I learnt how to operate an camera and soon started capturing memories on trips and everywhere on the move. This picture was clicked in the streets of the flower bazaar of Chennai where I forced my mother to accompany me to the market at 6:30 a.m. and I definitely can wait to explore more with my lens.
